Pool Tips

RAIN….

RAIN! ⛈️🌧️🤷‍♀️ Some of our areas have recently had heavy down pours of rain, which can cause havoc to our swimming pools! First, CEAN-UP! Inspect the pool and remove any debris from your skimmer and pump baskets. Remove all debris that may be floating on top of your pool surface using a leaf net/skimmer net and remove any debris that may be at the bottom of your pool. Since your pool may have extra water, from all the RAIN, depending on your filtration system, it would be a good idea to vacuum at a lot of debris off the bottom of your pool to waste. But if you have little or no debris, pump the excess water by turning your filter to “waste,” hooking up your backwash hose, and turning your pump on. Pump out the water until the waterline reaches the halfway point on the skimmer plate or about 6 to 8 inches from the top of the pool. If you can’t use your filtration system to lower your water, you may have to use a small submersible sump pump. Just make sure you drain the water to the correct level. You’ll want to inspect your pool filtration system and clean out/backwash if needed. Rain can often introduce contaminants to your water. I suggest adding a dose of your GLB or SALT SOLUTIONS ALGAECIDE during the day and SHOCK treating in the evening after the rain has ended. Always test your water to make sure your PH and Alkalinity levels are still in a good range. With heavy rain and storms it may be a good idea to bring in a pool water sample and have it professionally checked…you don’t want to end up with a green or cloudy pool from the storm. 🤢🤦‍♀️

Spring Opening – Removing Swimming Pool Winter Cover – GLB Cover Care

During the fall and winter months your pool cover accumulates water, leaves and debris. Be sure to avoid mixing the dirty water that’s on the top of the pool cover with your swimming pool water, you can do this by using a pool cover pump or shop vacuum. After carefully removing your winter cover, take it to a large area, driveway or other solid place for cleaning. Thoroughly sweep and hose off the cover. Use GLB Cover Care to clean, deodorize, and protect the cover during storage – ensuring a longer life for your pool cover.
With GLB Cover Care, you pour the cleaner on and scrub it with a brush or push broom. Once clean and rinsed, re-coat your cover with GLB COVER CARE, this deodorizes and protects during storage. There’s no need to let the cover completely dry, we do recommend that you buy a large plastic container to store and seal your pool cover in to help protect from bugs and rodents.
GLB Cover Care can also be used to clean plastic or canvas outdoor furniture, boat covers, umbrellas and other vinyl and canvas poolside accessories.GLB Cover Care

Solar Blanket Cover Swimming Pool

I get asked this question frequently by new pool owners. Should I use a Solar Cover? First let’s answer this, what is a solar cover? A solar cover is a large sheet of plastic that looks like bubble wrap and acts like a blanket on top of your swimming pool. The small bubbles on the Solar Cover are filled with air that heats up when the cover is in the sun. The heat from these bubbles transfers to the pool water, and helps raise the water temperature. A solar cover also minimizes heat loss from evaporation by acting as a barrier between swimming pool water and the air, especially at night, when the air is cooler than the swimming pool. Specifically, you can reduce your swimming pool heating costs by up to 70% by using a solar cover. 75% of a swimming pool’s heat loss is due to evaporation. Covers also help keep the pool clean by preventing dirt and debris from entering the water. So the answer to this question is YES, we highly recommend using a solar cover, they are the most efficient way to heat your pool, reduce water evaporation, reduce chemical loss and extend your swimming season.solar blanket
