Pool Tips
TIP: When to Clean Your D.E. Filter
When your D.E. filter captures dirt, debris and other particles you lose water flow and the pressure builds up in your filter. When the pressure gauge, located on your filter, reads 8 to 10 pounds over the normal starting pressure, your filter should be cleaned. The pressure gauge is one of the most important pieces of your D.E. Filter.
You should clean your D.E. filter at least once every month, or whenever you’re pressure gauge reads 8 to 10 pounds above the normal starting pressure.
The D.E.(Diatomaceous Earth) swimming pool filter can be one of the most effective types of swimming pool filters to keep your pool water looking and feeling its best all season long.
TIP: When to Test Pool Water During Spring Opening
One of the most important steps of swimming pool maintenance is water balance. During spring opening, it is best to have your pool water tested after you raise the water level back to normal, (which is typically about the middle of the skimmer opening) and you have added your opening pool chemicals as directed. We suggest letting your circulation system run for at least 12 hours before testing. You will want to test your pool water for pH, Total Alkalinity, Calcium Hardness and Sanitizer Levels.
Remember, we offer free testing of pool water to all of our loyal chemical customers. Just bring us in a fresh sample taken from the deepest end of your pool, arms length down and away from the skimmer. After pool water is safe and all levels are where they need to be, your pool will be ready for swimming!
TIP: Removing Winter Cover
During the fall and winter months your pool cover accumulates water, leaves and debris. Be sure to avoid mixing the dirty water that’s on the top of the pool cover with your swimming pool water, you can do this by using a pool cover pump or shop vacuum. After carefully removing your winter cover, take it to a large area, driveway or other solid place for cleaning. Thoroughly sweep and hose off the cover. Use GLB Cover Care to clean, deodorize, and protect the cover during storage – ensuring a longer life for your pool cover.
With GLB Cover Care, you pour the cleaner on and scrub it with a brush or push broom. Once clean and rinsed, re-coat your cover with GLB COVER CARE, this deodorizes and protects during storage. There’s no need to let the cover completely dry, we do recommend that you buy a large plastic container to store and seal your pool cover in to help protect from bugs and rodents.
GLB Cover Care can also be used to clean plastic or canvas outdoor furniture, boat covers, umbrellas and other vinyl and canvas poolside accessories.
