Oily Build Up in Swimming Pools

Does your pool have an oily build up? When bathers are using a little too much suntan oil – or not showering before swimming, you may experience an oily build up in your swimming pool and filter. Pools with heavier bathing loads may experience excessive “bather oil”, from tanning oils, hair treatments and cosmetics, this can develop filtration problems as these oils “gum-up” a pool filter.  GLB NATURAL CLEAR is an is an enzyme-based water cleaner that helps remove the contaminants from your swimming pool. Using GLB NATURAL CLEAR is not needed in every pool, but can be a great time saver and chemical saver in pools that see high use or large organic contamination. GLB NATURAL CLEAR is Compatible with chlorine, salt water chlorine, bromine, ozone and biguanide sanitizing systems. GLB NATURAL CLEAR prevents waterline buildup and clogged filters by rapidly digesting oils, lotions and organics and improves filtration.

Swimming Pool Solar Covers

I get asked this question frequently by new pool owners. Should I use a Solar Cover? First let’s answer this, what is a solar cover? A solar cover is a large sheet of plastic that looks like bubble wrap and acts like a blanket on top of your swimming pool. The small bubbles on the Solar Cover are filled with air that heats up when the cover is in the sun. The heat from these bubbles transfers to the pool water, and helps raise the water temperature. A solar cover also minimizes heat loss from evaporation by acting as a barrier between swimming pool water and the air, especially at night, when the air is cooler than the swimming pool. Specifically, you can reduce your swimming pool heating costs by up to 70% by using a solar cover. 75% of a swimming pool’s heat loss is due to evaporation. Covers also help keep the pool clean by preventing dirt and debris from entering the water. So the answer to this question is YES, we highly recommend using a solar cover, they are the most efficient way to heat your pool, reduce water evaporation, reduce chemical loss and extend your swimming season.

Rain Storm and Swimming Pools

After a rainstorm or heavy rainfall, swimming pool water can easily become green and cloudy from algae and debris. It is best to clean up and add a dose of GLB Algimycin 2000 (Algimycin can be added during the rain) and shock your pool immediately after the rain so algae does not grow or multiply, especially during warmer weather.
Preventative maintenance is the key to keeping a clear pool.
Rainfall can also change the chemistry of your pool water, most of the time dropping your PH and Alkalinity. Don’t forget to have your water tested adjust your chemistry as needed. Unbalanced water leads to problems that can be avoided with proper maintenance.

White Deposits in your Swimming Pool

Having trouble clearing your swimming pool? Seeing white deposits, slime or toilet paper like substance floating in your pool water? Chances are you have White Water Mold.

White Water Mold (WWM) is a naturally occurring fungus (this is NOT a form of Algae), that has a white mucous or tissue paper-like substance (sometimes called “toilet paper syndrome”)

WWM forms a heavy, protective coating providing the organism with an unusually high level of protection that is very resilient against halogen-based (chlorine, bromine) & non-halogen sanitizers or germicides.

White Water Mold or Pool Mold can remain a contaminant even after treatment exists on the surface of PVC plastics. It can re-contaminate long after it appears that it has been destroyed (includes pool toys, floats, ladders, steps, fountains, automatic pool cleaner parts, skimmer baskets, weirs, directional fittings, garden hoses, lights)

GLB Vanquish is specially formulated to treat the white and pink deposits that grow on pool walls and in plumbing. Vanquish deposit control treats pink, white and clear deposits in any swimming pool, including those sanitized with biguanide systems.
